The residency program in anatomic pathology has a structured curriculum of study in gross pathology, histology (including immunohistochemistry), and cytology by active participation in the necropsy and surgical biopsy diagnostic service leading to the eligibility to sit the Board Exams of ACVP or ECVP (alternative)

The funding for the residencies comes from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (for the internship programs) (usual founding for 1 year) and from the Ministry of National Education (Romania) for the postgraduate students who pursue the combined Ph.D. program (founding for 4 years). A research project usually leading to a publication is also undertaken during the residency as a part of their training.

During the entire training period, each resident in anatomic pathology plays a full role in the diagnostic service, assuming by rotation independent active duties (including gross examination, histopathology, cytology, and reporting) once their level of knowledge and practical skills in pathology have reached the required standards for service.
